Green Lanterns

18 09 2010

There are many Green Lanterns in the comic universe.

The Golden Age GL is Alan Scott. He is not part of the Corps, because his power comes from the Starheart, which was once in ownership of the Guardians of the Universe. He uses a Starheart lantern to charge his ring, which is like any other Green Lantern’s.

Hal Jordan is the Silver Age GL. He was given the ring by Abin Sur, a dying Green Lantern who knew he must pass on the ring. He was in love with Carol Ferris, the boss of United States Air Force testing. Only one person knew of his alter ego-Thomas “Pieface” Kalmaku. He saw Hal and GL use the same punch.

Guy Gardner is the Bronze Age GL. He was the second choice for Abin Sur. Hal was chosen because he was closer. Guy was later inducted into the Corps in Green Lantern (Volume 2) #59.

The Modern Age GL is Kyle Raynar. He was given the last Power Ring after the destruction of the Green Lantern Corps. Later he changed his name to Ion. He later recovered the body of Hal Jordan.

Most GL’s use this oath: “In brightest day, in blackest night, no evil shall escape my sight, let those who worship evil’s might, beware my power…Green Lanterns light! Alan Scott used a different oath: “And I shall shed my light over dark evil, for the dark things cannot stand the light. The light of … THE GREEN LANTERN!”
